Getting here, and what you see on the way

Most guests reach the camp on a two-day run between Samarkand and Bukhara. Both directions cover the same ground; pick the one that fits your route. Every stop below is included.

Desert Rose — Samarkand to Bukhara

Two days, one night. Samarkand in the morning, Nurata on the way, the camp for the evening, and Lake Aydarkul before Bukhara.

Day 1 — Samarkand · Nurata · the camp

  1. Pick-up from your hotel in Samarkand
  2. Drive to Nurata
  3. Visit the Chashma memorial complex and the ruins of Alexander the Great’s garrison
  4. Lunch at a local family’s house
  5. Drive to the yurt camp
  6. Arrive and settle in
  7. Camel ride (about 10 minutes; longer by arrangement)
  8. Dinner at the camp
  9. Campfire, with songs from the Kazakh akyn
  10. Overnight in a yurt

Day 2 — Aydarkul · Bukhara

  1. Breakfast at the camp
  2. Drive to the shore of Lake Aydarkul
  3. Picnic by the lake — swimming and fishing in season
  4. Drive towards Bukhara
  5. Stop at the Rabat-i-Malik caravanserai
  6. Visit the pottery masters’ workshop in Gijduvan
  7. Arrive in Bukhara — end of services

Desert Rose — Bukhara to Samarkand

The same two days run the other way, for guests travelling from Bukhara towards Samarkand.

Bukhara → Gijduvan → Nurata → Yurt camp → Aydarkul → Samarkand
